Job Description

Operational & Efficiency Management

  • Lead Daily Operations: Have full P&L accountability for cross-dock performance, overseeing receiving, sorting, loading, and dispatch processes to ensure day 1 for day 2 service reliability.
  • KPI Management: Set, monitor, and achieve critical Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) focused on service levels (SLAs), cost per shipment, throughput efficiency, and on-time delivery.
  • Continuous Improvement: Champion Lean methodologies (e.g., 5S and Kaizen) to identify and implement initiatives that eliminate waste, streamline material flow, and optimize facility layout.
  • System & Scheduling: Manage dock door assignments and scheduling systems to minimize truck idle time and congestion. Ensure accurate use of Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) for real-time inventory and documentation.

Leadership & People Management

  • Team Leadership: Lead, coach, and motivate a large team of circa [Insert Team Size, e.g., 50-150] associates, supervisors, and material handlers across all shifts.
  • Performance Management: Be accountable for team performance, including recruiting, onboarding, training, and implementing performance and absence management processes.
  • Communication: Facilitate effective communication within the department and collaborate seamlessly with Transportation, Inventory Control, and Sales teams to align operations with wider business goals.

Safety, Compliance, & Finance

  • Safety Culture: Establish and enforce a rigorous Health & Safety culture, ensuring all operations and colleagues are compliant with regulatory standards and safe systems of work.
  • Financial Control: Develop, manage, and monitor the operational budget, focusing on cost controls and proactively identifying opportunities for cost reduction without compromising service quality.
  • Quality Control: Oversee quality control measures for inbound and outbound shipments, verifying accuracy against manifests, orders, and compliance documentation (e.g., hazardous materials).
